there’s a broader story that’s still murky, because in this scandal Trump is both the perpetrator and the mark. Trump used the power of his office to try to force Ukraine to substantiate conspiracy theories. But the president was fed those conspiracy theories by people with their own agendas, who surely understood that he is insecure about Russia’s role in his election, and he will believe whatever serves his ego in the moment. The main reason Trump should be removed from office is that he has subverted American foreign policy for corrupt personal ends. But this scandal is the latest reminder of how easy sinister forces find it to pull his strings.--Michelle Goldberg
Trump's is utterly unfit, and has been since day 1, and any sensible person hopes for his removal. He is a cross between John Gotti and Kim Kardashian, and it should be obvious that he has a relationship with Putin that is analogous to the NBA's relationship to China.
Trump has the respect of no one who is respectable. His supporters are either naive or delusional--the kind of people from time immemorial have been easy prey for demagogues and con men--or they are themselves thugs like Trump--the kind of people who prey on the naive and delusional, the Manaforts, the Levs & Igors, the Roger Stones. Or they are just venal hacks on the make, the Giullianis, the Michael Flynns, the Scott Pruitts.
What we know now about Trump's malfeasance is the tip of the iceberg. While the Ukraine scandal should be enough to warrant his removal, it probably won't be. Something else has to come to light. It's very likely there is something, and someday it will come to light, but whether before next November, one can only hope.
For me, my hope for his removal is rather like hoping that after Russell Wilson throws an interception in overtime, the Seahawks will win. On Monday Night Football this week he did, and they did. It gives me hope that Team Sanity and Decency might find a way to pull off a victory, long shot though it might be. Stranger things have happened.
