Well, Biden better than Bloomberg if there is to be a Bernie alternative. But at best he is a short-term solution if he beats Trump. I get it--he's a sentimental favorite among older Blacks in S.C., but why is S.C. relevant at all? Democrats are not going to win S.C. in November. Neither are they going to win most of the southern states that will be voting on Super Tuesday. Maybe Texas is in play, but I doubt it.
I'm sure I've written about this in previous presidential primaries because it's a question I've never heard a good answer for: Why do the Democrats give so much power to shape the race in the early primaries to states that will be so insignificant in November? Iowa is probably out of reach. Nevada and New Hampshire are ridiculously small, and all the Black votes in South Carolina and most of the other Super Tuesday states in the South are not going to make a difference in the electoral college. Shouldn't their influence on selecting a candidate be commensurate with their electoral relevance?
Maybe it is, but I have questions about just how representative of the Black vote is in South Carolina. I am more interested to know the preference of the Black voters in in Michigan, Illinois, New York, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania. Those are the states that will play a significant role in determining the outcome in November. We'll see what happens on Super Tuesday, but my guess is that if we heard from the Black voters in states that have the best chance of going Blue before we heard from the Black voters in the states that will likely remain red, Biden would be done.
My fear is that Biden has a chance now because all November-irrelevant states in the South will keep him competitive and draw this out to a miserable disputatious end where it's likely that the establishment will find a way put Biden up against the thug Trump. I could see the young urban, multiracial vote sitting it out. They know what their parents don't, which is that Uncle Joe is the Dems's version of George W. Bush--a not-too-bright, foot-in-mouth, if affable, prodigy of conventional wisdom, an establishment swamp creature without an independent thought in his head. He's simply not up to the challenges that we face. But anybody but Trump, right?
